Disclosure: Thank you to Disney for hosting the 25 Days of Christmas Event. All opinions are my own.

We have said it before, “25 Days of Christmas” is something our family looks forward to every year.  Our family looks forward to this magical line up every year.  The full 25 Days of Christmas line up for 2018 is amazing! This past week when I was in Los Angeles, I was thrilled to chat with the talent behind “The Great Christmas Light Fight” as well as “The Great American Baking Show : Holiday Edition” Is there anything more appropriate for December than holiday baking and over the top Christmas light displays? I think not!  Here are some of the highlights from our interview.

If you have not heard of these shows yet, add them to your list to check out!

The Great Christmas Light Flight  airs Mondays at 8/7c on the ABC Television Network, streaming or on demand.

The Great American Baking Show : Holiday Edition  premieres with a 2-hour episode on Thursday, December 6 at 9/8c on ABC, streamingand on demand.

We had a short time to sit down with a star from each show.  Both seemed excited about the holidays and about being a part of 25 Days of Christmas.  Both were new shows to me, so I was excited that they were willing to share a bit about their shows.

Carter Oostershouse stars on “The Great Christmas Light Fight” which airs on Mondays.  He shared that there are two hosts, himself and Taniya.  He shared that he features four homes decorated for the holidays in the first hour and that Taniya is in the 2nd hour also featuring four decorated homes.  He revealed that they are on different coasts and never actually see one another during the filming of an episode.

He shared his favorite thing about being a part of this show

“I love seeing people create something. It is what brings us all together at Christmas, creating Christmas memories.”

While I was captivated and curious about the show right away, he confessed his daughter is not such a quick audience.  He shared that when he offered to put on his show, his daughter watched only for a few minutes and then said “Now Daniel Tiger.”  I loved hearing him talk about his daughter and his sense of humor.  His own daughter might be a tough audience, but this is a perfect show to watch with your whole family!

The Great Christmas Light Fight showcases the wildest and most spectacular Christmas displays in America. In each one-hour episode, four families from all around the country decorate their homes to the extreme in the hopes of winning the coveted Light Fight trophy and a $50,000 prize, with a total of $300,000 given away for the season. As the temperature cools down, the competition heats up when families invite us from out of the snow inside their homes to witness their fanatic Christmas décor for the very first time. In addition to all of the stunning inside/outside displays, the first ever “Heavyweights” episode will showcase light shows that have grown too large for any home.

Many readers may already be familiar with “The Great American Baking Show”.  The season premiere kicks off with a special holiday edition on Thursday 12/6/18 at 9pm on ABC.  (Tonight!)

My 12 year old is just starting to get into baking and she loves watching Sherry Yard.  It was such a sweet treat to meet her in person.  It was wonderful to hear her talk about her passion and discovering up and coming bakers.

The contestants are from all over the United States. Don’t let them fool you. They are home bakers, but they could kick the butt of any professional pastry chef out there. They are serious bakers.”  Sherry Yard

Most of us make Christmas cookies, gingerbread, or brownies for the Christmas season; but Sherry makes something extra special. I admit I had to look up the spelling of her favorite holiday treat!

I make croquembouches. They’re cream puffs, dipped in caramel and they’re stacked up. It means a crackle in your mouth it’s the most spectacular dessert. Then you spin sugar, I can spin it by hand. I spin sugar into mounds and I put it all over the top and it’s the most incredible centerpiece. ” Sherry Yard

The Great American Baking Show: Holiday Edition, based on the hit U.K. series The Great British Bake Off, returns THURSDAY, DEC. 6 (9:00 – 11:00 p.m. EST). Showcasing bakers from around the country each week, the series puts their best recipes forward as they compete in holiday-themed challenges and eliminations, all hoping to be named America’s Best Amateur Baker.

Joining as host this season, Spice Girl and television personality Emma Bunton, alongside returning host Anthony “Spice” Adams, will present bakers with weekly challenges as they turn up the heat in the kitchen creating sweet and savory holiday fare.

Joining the judges panel this season is three-time James Beard Award-winning pastry chef Sherry Yard. Each week, Yard and baker and best-selling cookbook author Paul Hollywood (The Great British Bake Off) will taste decadent and delicious treats while sharing advice and commentary in regards to the bakers’ techniques and skills.

Taking a peek into ABC studios was such a treat! I am excited to cozy up with my family and watch these shows for 25 Days of Christmas.  I know many of our readers struggle to find something that their whole family can watch together, I highly suggest checking out both of these shows with your whole crew!

Thank you so much to Sherry Yard and Carter Oosterhouse for taking the time to share with us during this busy time of year.   It was such a treat to sit down and meet you in person! You have inspired my family to step up our baking game as well as our holiday light display. Thank you to Disney for setting up the time to chat.

Until Next Time ~ Kate
