Summertime in California is when we tend to see our energy bills rise. There are easy ways to manage our energy so we can keep California golden AND have more money in our pockets. Energy Upgrade California has all kinds of helpful information on what California’s State Energy Goals, how you can save energy in your own home, and even some fun videos, contest, and more!
So are you looking for ideas on how to manage your energy this Summer? It’s seriously easy! We do most of these things already and I encourage you to consider trying them out too. It not only teaches our kids how to preserve our natural resources for tomorrow, it also saves us money today – it is a total ‘win win’!
* Replace Inefficient Energy Wasting Items! We have replaced all of our lights with energy efficient light bulbs. As appliances need replacing we replace with energy saving appliances. We have seen our bill drop with each energy upgrade and we save that money towards energy upgrades in other areas.
* Save Water! We have installed water aerators in every faucet that is compatible with one. Our shower heads are low flow and the kids use a small kitchen timer when they take a shower. A five minute shower is all we really need to get clean, with the timer they get in, get out, turn off the water, lights, and fan – energy saving all around! It is a big time offense to leave the water running while brushing your teeth in this house, so easy, just turn it off while brushing and with a family of five it saves several gallons each day! We have low flow toilets and our garden is on a very efficient sprinkler system. People are always surprised to hear how low our water bill is, but it is just small things every day that add up!
* Family Fun in the Dark! Summer time means we are up late and having fun together as a family. Our family isn’t huge on TV every night. We typically do a movie night once a week, the rest of the time we have the TV turned off. I read through the tips on Energy Management CA and we are totally into one of the fun suggestions – game night be candlelight – seriously the kids are gonna love it! We also plan on a living room ‘camping’ trip; we’ll stay at home and enjoy smores on the stove, rated G ‘ghost stories’, flashlight puppetry, and candlelight memories.
