strawberry hill povitica“Mom! It is so heavy! How can bread be so heavy?” J – she was thrilled with the delivery right at our doorstep!

I honestly had not heard of Strawberry Hill Povitica until this month, but I fell in love with it right away. Not only is Povitica pretty much the most delicious dessert bread we have ever tasted, it is also an all American family owned business. I love that Strawberry Hill Povitica is a family owned business that began in 1903. Their famous Povitica is still handmade in Kansas City. We love to support family owned businesses and something unique, and I know this is important to so many of our readers too. Check out their page and watch owner Marc talk about his business, you will have a hard time not being captivated by the passion he has for his family business.

This Eastern European sweet bread is known by many names.  We have always called it Strudel, but it can also be called Kalachi, Potica, Nutroll, Poppyroll, and in this case Povitica. While it has many names, their name means you are in for a treat!  Each loaf is handmade, hand-rolled, and those from Strawberry Hill Povitica are made with the love of a grandma’s original recipe. With thirteen different flavors to choose from, you are are sure to find the perfect fit for your holiday celebration.

gift povitica

Our family all agrees that a Strawberry Hill Povitica is a perfect gift to send to loved ones who are far away.  It is so unique and special, we think it is the perfect treat for Christmas morning, or whatever holiday you hold dear.  Imagine your loved ones slicing up an apple cinnamon loaf to have with morning coffee and hot cocoa while they open presents.  I know there are a lot of options when it comes to gifts you can send online, but the thirteen different flavors of handmade deliciousness is meant to be for cozy holiday celebrations.

If anyone here has every ordered a food related gift for the holidays, you know it can be pricey. Breads, cheeses, even fruit baskets can be quite pricey. A 2 1/2 pound loaf cake from Strawberry Hill is unique and delicious, and priced very reasonably in comparison to competitor’s treats!  Lucky for you, I have an exclusive code for a great discount and free shipping for Strawberry Hill Povitica.  Choose any of their 13 flavors and they will ship it to your loved one for $19.99! This code is $10 off plus free shipping!

Many of our readers may have noticed Strawberry Hill Povitica at a local Costco Roadshow. Their Costco Roadshow Schedule is available online and I highly suggest stopping by their booth if you are on the stop!  Sadly, I have not seen California on their list, but I am going to do my best to convince them!  While some may not be able to purchase at Costco, it is available online for anyone in the US to order.

Our kids love to bake and Povitica was a new experience for them. They love the sweet swirls and cozy flavors. They asked if we could learn how to make it so we could have it any day we wanted. Well, Povitica is not an every day treat, but I humored them and found a video from Strawberry Hill showing the process.  We all decided that perhaps we leave this very extensive process to the professionals!

If you are looking for suggestions on flavor choices, our family’s favorite was a toss up. We had a tie between Strawberry Cream Cheese and Cokalada (Chocolate), but everything we tried was delicious.  We’ve discovered Povitica is very rich and much more like cake than bread. A very small slice with a cup of coffee kinda made us all feel like royalty.

Commenting on this as a non giveaway post! My Mom used to make this in a iron skillet. For us it was called Potica. I always knew it was Eatern European, and always looked forward to her making it. Hers was made with cinnamon, and raisins, and all kinds of goodies inside. I have yet to have it like hers was. This looks pretty close!
