I have noticed quite a few searches for Thrift Store Haul Videos recently and I thought you just might like all of our Thrift Store Hauls all in the same post. My family loves to shop at Thrift Stores and Garage Sales! Thrifting is a great way to save money and is really inexpensive entertainment as well! I tend to cloth my family almost entirely from Thrifting and Garage “Sailing” expeditions. While I love shopping in a conventional mall, I do love the thrill of finding brand name clothing that would typically cost dozens of dollars for only one or two (or sometimes less!).
Shopping at Thrift Stores is far more tedious than shopping at a regular store for sure, but it is so worth it! I cut down our clothing budget nearly in half and sometimes I don’t even use it all! We bumped up our monthly giving to charities we truly believe are making a difference and also have goals of fixing up our fixer upper house debt free. Cut down on our expenses and help others? That is so worth a little digging!
We also love that thrifting is gentle on the environment! With 5 people in our family if we bought everything new there would be a lot more packaging that went along with that higher price tag. While I would never say we are the greenest family around we do make most of our own cleaners, we have been a part of a community garden (and now have our own space for a back yard garden!), and we recycle as much as we can. Even if you do not ‘need’ to thrift to save money, you could do it sometimes simply to lessen your carbon footprint!
While our income has increased over the years I have found little reason to shop for things brand new. I find beautiful, brand name clothing for our entire family at consignment shops and rummages sales all the time. Many times I find brand new surf brand tshirts and jeans for my husband with the tags still on them! Imagine my thrill when I found a blouse I had passed at Anthropologie because it was just a bit too pricey for only $3.99 at my local thrift store just a month later! Our kids enjoy toys, clothing, and even decor in their rooms that are second hand.
Cutting down on every day expenses by thrifting has given us the freedom to add onto our house without any debt. I took the savings one step further by furnishing nearly my entire house with a mixture of new and used items. While I rarely buy fabric furniture from thrift stores, nearly everything else is! Couches and pillows are all bought new. Everything from our side tables to our bar stools have been purchased at a fraction of the cost. I have even purchased fabric from thrift stores for pennies on the dollar to reupholster chairs!
Shopping at garage sales, thrift stores, and consignment shops is only half the story. We take outgrown items that are still in good condition to our local consignment shop. A few years ago we were saving for an adoption process and simply didn’t want to spend any money on new clothing for school. Sorting out clothing we had outgrown and taking to a local resale shop was as easy chore for the kids. We took our items down and exchanged them for credit to buy new to us clothing. Round and round it goes!
If you have thought about thrifting and aren’t quite sure if it is for you, you should think about it! Here are a couple videos where I show off some of the fun things I have purchased while shopping second hand. Check out “Thrift Store Haul Videos” and “Garage Sale Haul Videos” on YouTube too. You might just be inspired to give it a try!
Just a few of the brands I have come across at Thrift Stores and Garage Sales this year…..
