K ) Why did you choose to start this business?
T) I formulated the idea for the business while working in Interior Design, where I started to save discontinued fabric samples from the dumpsters just because they were so beautiful. The day I discovered they were the perfect size for a clutch, the skies opened and the rest was history! I made lots of handbags for myself and friends, and I dreamed about being able to go into business for myself one day. After having my first (daughter), I decided it would be as good a time as any to begin a home based business while home with the baby. My second (son) is six months old and it is certainly challenging to juggle everything, but I love the creative outlet I get with my business!
K) What makes your purses different from other handmade purses?
T) My bags are all made from 50 to 100% upcycled upholstery samples and remnants. They are individually designed and one-of-a-kind, so they are truly unique.
K) What are your favorite materials to work with?
T) I have a soft spot for crisp clean linens and super supple leathers.
K) Do you have any advice for other mom’s looking to pursue their dreams of starting their own business?
T) The best advice I can give is the best advice I’ve ever received… “As long as you are doing what you love, doors will open for you.” Being a business owner can be all consuming, as can mothering, but both reap such huge rewards. It is important to find balance, get support, take baby steps, and remember it’s all in the journey!
K) Do you have a favorite item you have made?
T) This is one of my all-time-favorites (pictured above) – it was a baby blue/butterscotch bedding sample that I turned into a large clutch with a beautiful supple leather back. Because I can usually only make one bag out of the materials I work with, sometimes it’s really hard to say goodbye!
