Who were the original Tuskegee Airman?
In March of 1942, five of the 13 cadets in the first class completed the Army Air Corps pilot training program became The United States of Americans first Black military Pilots. The five original Tuskegee Airmen were named Lemuel R. Curtis, Charles DeBow, Mac Ross, George Spencer Roberts, and Captain Benjamin O. All five had the military rank of 2nd Lieutenant.
How many Tuskegee Airman were there?
Nearly 1000 pilots graduated from the Tuskegee Air Field courses, 992 to be exact. The Tuskegee airmen flew over 1500 missions, over 15,000 sorties, and destroyed more than 260 enemy aircraft.
