Mat Kearney Wine

Sometimes my work involves hanging out with Rock Stars, not usually, usually it involves hanging out at Whole Foods.  This past week I to hang out with a rock star…. because he was at Whole Foods! And get this, it was because Whole Foods was introducing Wine by Mat Kearney – wine, rock stars, and fancy food?  Yeah, I can make that event.

Mat Kearney Interview

Verse & Chorus

Just before his quick acoustic performance a few very lucky local wine and food bloggers had the opportunity to interview Mat Kearney about the new wine he has created with two of the best family vineyards in Napa.   Verse & Chorus Wine by Mat Kearney is sold exclusively at Whole Foods Market stores. Mat Kearney was raised in Eugene Oregon with vineyards in his backyard.  I appreciated hearing how involved Mat was in everything from selecting fruits to the design of the label.  When asked where the name came from Mat explained that the “Verse and Chorus are the bones of a song, they are what makes it good” and it was important to him that his wine label was connected to his music.  I think we sometimes see recording artists put their name on an item because it is lucrative to do so, but it was apparent that Mat is passionate about wine and highly involved in this new venture.  I found that refreshing!

Hanging with a couple of the ladies before the show!  Make sure to check out SoCal Savvy Mom, Wine Harlots, and It’s A Lovely Life for what they have to say too!

I enjoy wine, but I am not an expert by any means.  I will tell you as a friend, my husband and I very much enjoyed this Bordeaux type blend! Whole Foods describes Verse & Chorus this way….. “A collaboration between Nashville-based musician Mat Kearney and the winemakers at Peju Winery of Napa Valley. Intense notes of black currant, plum and cocoa lead to rich juicy dark berry flavors. Toasty hazelnut and roasted coffee in the very long finish.”

Whole Foods suggest pairing Verse & Chorus with Beef Tenderloin or Prime Rib.  Mat and his wife Annie suggested Rosemary Lamb Chops and Kale Salad.  I plan on testing it out with both of these….. I am nothing if not thorough in my research. 😉

Mat Kearney Free Concert

Mat performed right in the middle of the store to a PACKED and super excited crowd!  The concert was free to the public and he signed bottles of his wine after the concert – he will be visiting a few more Whole Foods Market’s in the future – make sure to check out Mat Kearney’s Tour Schedule to see if another Whole Foods concert pops up!  Mat received critical acclaim for his debut album “Nothing Left to Lose.” and is releasing his fifth album this summer!  Not familiar with Mat Kearney?  Well, you totally should be – check him out on You Tube……

and in case he sounds familiar but you aren’t exactly sure why; this is why………..

If you are interested in trying Verse & Chorus Wine by Mat Kearney – it is sold exclusively online and in Whole Foods Market Stores!  Verse & Chorus debut wine has already had great reviews, I of course asked if there were more wines on the horizon and I am happy to report that in 2014 we should be seeing more!

Thank you to Mat Kearney for taking the time to meet with us and to Whole Foods Market for the opportunity!
