The San Diego Zoo Safari Park, originally named the San Diego Wild Animal Park until 2010, is a massive wildlife sanctuary and zoo. At 1,800 acre, it gives animals space to roam and feel at home. The zoo in the San Pasqual Valley area of San Diego, California, near Escondido. It is one of the most unique tourist attractions in San Diego California. The park houses a large array of wild and endangered animals including species from the continents of Africa, Asia, Europe, North and South America, and Australia. The park is in a semi-arid environment, and one of its most notable features is the Africa Tram, which explores the expansive African exhibits. These free-range enclosures house such animals as antelopes, giraffes, buffalo, cranes, and rhinoceros. The park is also noted for its California condor breeding program, the most successful such program in the United States.

The San Diego Zoo Safari Park is visited by millions every year.  The Safari Park is about one hour north of the San Diego Zoo. This unique tourist attraction is also only about one and a half hours south east of Disneyland.  If you are traveling to Disneyland, we always suggest staying one more day and visiting a lesser known site.  The San Diego Zoo Safari Park is always a family favorite!

The park has the world’s largest veterinary hospital. Next door to the hospital is the Institute for Conservation Research, which holds the park’s Frozen Zoo.  The San Diego Zoo and the SD Zoo Safari Park clearly care about the animals they are entrusted with.  The research they do at this non profit zoo ensure that endangered species will be with us for generations to come.
