The Islands of Loreto : Baja California Sur
Nestled in the Sea of Cortez, just off Baja California Sur are the Islands of Loreto. I spent a heavenly three days discovering Loreto, the Sea of Cortez, and the surrounding islands; this is a tiny little slice of paradise that needs to be on your vacation list. Despite being so close to San Diego, we have never traveled to Mexico before, but we have certainly put Loreto on our family vacation radar!
Explorer Jacques Cousteau called the Sea of Cortez “the world’s aquarium” because of the abundance of beautiful sea life; I could not agree more…… please enjoy just a few photos from my trip to Loreto. Keep in mind Loreto is a quick 2 hour plane ride from LAX and quite budget friendly as far as vacation destinations go. Happy Wordless (ish) Wednesday friends!
Private Beach in the Sea of Cortez….. it was breath taking.
* I don’t really like being in pictures, but I thought I would share one picture proving I was actually there!*
This bird is called a “Blue Footed Booby”…… which my kid’s are still laughing about. Obviously.
See the dolphins? They loved playing in the waves from our boat.
We were so excited to see THREE whale sharks, including this baby. Our guide said he goes out multiple times a week and he only has seen whale sharks a couple times, he said this was really special – and it was!
We spent a couple hours snorkeling on our private beach and then hopped back on the boat for a quick tour of the tiny, historical, and beautiful city of Loreto….
You guys….. this beach was all but deserted, but it was SO beautiful. The city was quiet, friendly, inviting, and relaxing. Loreto is a small beach city that I truly hope to visit again someday soon!
Our guide told us proudly that the San Javier Mission was the first mission built – “This is history my friends.”
And just one more……… because I love boats……
If I have not convinced you yet to consider Loreto for your next vacation, just wait until I share about our stay at the lovely Villa Del Palmar at the Islands of Loreto! Coming soon!
Thank you AJ! I know Grandpa probably isn’t one to lounge on a beach – but it would be a very relaxing vacation!
We fell in love with Loreto and Villa del Palmar last July, so much so that we are going back again this July. Loved reading your blog and your pictures were great!
Thank you
