Moana – Live Action – plus coloring pages and activity sheets!

Moana and Maui are back; re-imagined in a live action world! Moana was one of our favorite animated films in a long time; and I love seeing the story unfold again in a different medium. To celebrate the Live Action Moana film from Disney; I am resharing my free Moana Printable Coloring Pages from our free Disney printables library! I will include a few printables at the end of this post, but see the link for the full collection!

Moana sails into theaters this summer on July 10th! It is a perfect film for the whole family.

Is Moana Live Action too scary for young kids?

For those asking; I would say that the scary parts of this film are more intense than in the animated version; but not by much. I believe Moana is not too scary even for the youngest of audiences.

The only truly scary thing is the existential crisis that is trying to reconcile Dwayne the Rock Johnson in a wig. I know Maui needs hair. I know that actors wear wigs all the time. It’s fine. But, respectfully; it isn’t. I don’t have any ideas of what would have worked, but I don’t like it.

While Maui is played by the same actor that voiced Maui in the animated film; Moana is played by the lovely Catherine Laga’aia in the live action film. Laga’aia is strong, funny, sweet, and plays the character we all love from the film so beautifully!

The costuming of the live action film is beautifully done!

I also have some questions about Heihei. I don’t understand how this chicken is alive the entire time from when Moana is a little toddler until she is in her teens. I guess it is Disney magic, I guess. What really has me scratching my head is that baby Heihei just looks like a miniature version of Heihei; not a tiny little chick when he is a baby. That said; mini Heihei is also my favorite silly thing so it is fine.
